Our Purpose
Our purpose is to preach and teach the Word of God with the objective to bring people into a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We are a loving, Christ-centered, Holy Spirit directed, solid Word-based, social conscious Christian church responsible to share the Gospel through Worship and Outreach, Fellowship, Discipleship and Christian Education.
What We Believe
We believe that salvation is through the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ
and the repentance of sin, and that we are saved by the grace of God through faith in Christ Jesus. We are not saved by good works, baptism, church membership or anything of our own effort, but by accepting Jesus as our personal Savior and as Lord over our lives.
We believe that there is one God who eternally exists as the Holy Trinity:
the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
We believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
That Jesus Christ in the flesh was both God and man, and that He was born of a virgin; lived a sinless life; performed miraculous works; wrought many signs and wonders; was crucified; died for our sins; was resurrected from the dead; ascended into heaven, and now sits at the right hand of His Father interceding on behalf of all believers as the head of the church, and that He will one day return for His church.
We believe that His return for His church is imminent
according to Holy Scripture and that He will manifest himself visibly to this world.

Larry Smith
Pastor, teacher, preacher, singer, an anointed man of God, Dr. Larry Smith is a visionary leader who has served as the pastor of New St. Mark Baptist Church for over 40 years. Pastor Smith is a lover of God and God’s people. His strong faith and his unwavering desire for God’s people to grow spiritually and use the Word of God as a part of daily living has led New St. Mark to higher heights in Christian living. A progressive thinker, numerous ministries have been added to affect positive change in the community through the New St. Mark Family Life Center and the Abayomi Community Development Corporation, providing services for youth, families and seniors.
Pastor Smith is a man of faith who believes in the power of the Holy Spirit to guide and direct his path in ministry. He loves preaching and he loves preachers. A graduate of Marygrove College, Pastor Smith received his Masters of Theology from Ashland Theological Seminary and his Doctorate of Ministry from Ecumenical Theological Seminary, and served as an adjunct professor at Marygrove College. Active in community as well as religious organizations, Pastor Smith has been the recipient of numerous awards and commendations. He has served in leadership and as instructor in the Michigan District Association and the B.M. E. State Convention and Congress. Dr. Smith has served as teacher, mentor, and spiritual father to many sons and daughters in the ministry, some who are now pastoring their own churches. Pastor Smith works in ministry partnership with his wife Rev. Linda Smith, also a graduate of Ashland Theological Seminary. They are the parents of four Christian daughters, all college graduates who offer strong support to their ministry and grandparents to ten wonderful grandchildren with four sons-in-laws.

Linda Smith
Preacher, Teacher, Administrator, First Lady and Dynamic Woman of God! Reverend Linda Smith is God’s vessel of grace, poise and power. She loves the Lord and is dedicated to the work of the ministry and kingdom building. Pastor Linda shares in preaching and teaching responsibility at New St. Mark, where she ministers in partnership with her husband and the love of her life, Dr. Larry Smith. In 2011, she developed Sunrise Sister’s, a quarterly worship experience for women that continues to grow and offer women of all ages an opportunity for fellowship, prayer, praise and to worship God in their own way. Licensed in 2004 and ordained as a Gospel preacher in 2006, she has grown into a powerful preacher and prolific teacher.
With the help of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Linda strives to deliver a clear and relevant Word so that people can learn to apply it to their everyday situations. A graduate of Marygrove College with a BA in Secondary Education, she later pursued and received her Masters of Theology from Ashland Theological Seminary. Pastor Linda is a praying, anointed woman who has faithfully served in ministry at New St. Mark Baptist Church for over 40 years. She strives to maintain a standard of excellence because she knows that we serve a most excellent and awesome God who deserves our best. She believes that if we first seek the kingdom of heaven and all of its righteousness, everything else will follow. She stands her spiritual ground and balances her life commitment on Romans 8:28, knowing that all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose. She and Pastor Larry are the parents of four saved daughters, who are all college graduates and are serious servants within the Body of Christ. They are blessed with four son-in-laws and ten grandchildren.
